Juana Rosa Pita

Juana Rosa Pita (born December 8, 1939 in Havana ) is a Cuban poet, essayist and translator.

Pita left Cuba in 1961 and then lived in Virginia, Madrid, New Orleans, Miami and, since 2005, in Boston. She has published more than 30 volumes of poetry. Her poems have been translated into five languages ​​(including by Pietro Civitareale and Alessio Brandolini into Italian and Franz Niedermayer into German) and have also appeared in anthologies such as New Directions in Prose and Poetry 49 (New York, 1985, translated by Donald D. Walsh ) , Poesía cubana del siglo XX (2002) and Otra Cuba secreta (Madrid, 2011). She was awarded the Premio de Poesía para Hispanoamérica of the Instituto de Cultura Hispánica di Malaga (1975), the Premio Internzionale Ultimo Novecento (1985), the Premio Alghero "La cultura per la pace" and the Letras de Oro Poetry Prize of the Iberian Studies Institute (1993) excellent.
