JUKI KK ( Japanese JUKI 株式会社 , JUKI Kabushiki kaisha , English JUKI Corporation ) is a Japanese manufacturer of machines and devices based in Tama (Tokyo) .

history

JUKI was founded in December 1938 as Tōkyō Jūki Seizō Kōgyō Kumiai ( 東京 重 機 製造 工業 組合 , German "Production Cooperative for Heavy Machinery Tokyo") and initially produced ordinance weapons and rifles for the Imperial Japanese Army in World War II. September 1943 the name was changed to Tōkyō Jūki Seizō KK ( 東京 重 機 工業 株式会社 , "Heavy Machinery Tokyo"). In April 1988 the name was changed to Jūki KK ( ジ ュ ー キ 株式会社 ) and in July 2005 to JUKI KK

In 1945 JUKI started manufacturing household sewing machines. The first machines came onto the market in 1947. In 1953 the first industrial sewing machines were offered. In 1976 the first overlock machine came onto the market. The company is one of the leading industrial sewing machine manufacturers in the world and sells its machines in 170 countries.

JUKI has been listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange since October 1961 . The company also produces industrial machinery such as surface mounted technology (chip) mounters, and printing machines and electronic devices such as printers. Juki has subsidiaries for production in China and Vietnam.
