Junkersmühle
The Junkersmühle was a watermill outside the city walls of Aachen .
location
Today the street name "An der Junkersmühle" still reminds of the building at the Johannisbach . Right next to it ran Vaelser Strasse , now known as Vaalser Strasse , an important road for the time that connected Aachen and Maastricht via the neighboring Vaals and through which goods and goods were transported into and out of the city. A large mill pond belonged to the Junkersmühle .
history
The Junkersmühle already appears in the documents in 1364 and was the longest of all the mills in Aachen. It was first mentioned by name as Junkersmühle in 1408 . In 1857 the cloth manufacturer Johann Friedrich Lochner acquired the mill with the associated water rights on the Johannisbach, which he needed as a branch for his new Lochner cloth factory .
With the liquidation of the cloth factory in 1907, the Junkersmühle was also sold and torn down and a magnificent residential complex was built on the site in 1926, which has been preserved to this day and is a listed building.
