The junctional ectopic tachycardia (JET) is a rare cardiac arrhythmia , which in particular postoperatively after cardiac surgery , especially in childhood, occurs.

etiology

The JET is mostly based on stimulation of the conduction system , in particular of the atrioventricular node . The tachycardia therefore originates from the conduction system.

Diagnosis

The diagnosis is made via the ECG . This typically shows tachycardia with narrow QRS complexes . The excitation of the auricles and ventricles is dissociated.

therapy

Postoperatively, the tachycardia can often be terminated by a mild hypothermia . Otherwise, amiodarone is the drug of choice. It is also possible to use a specially modified temporary pacemaker for R-wave- dependent atrial excitation . Overall, the JET therapy varies greatly between the individual cardiac surgery departments.
