King's Monument (Saltstraumen)

The King Memorial at Saltstraumen is a 1874-built monument to commemorate the royal visit by Oscar II. On June 26, 1873. It stands on the site of a former signal mast , the navigation should ease through the maelstrom. Over time, two more pages of the monument have been expanded to include the dates of the respective times of visits by the following kings:

  • Haakon VII visited the place on July 5, 1926,
  • Olav V visited Saltstraumen on August 14, 1982.

The fourth side of the monument remains free so far (2017).
