history

The couple Franz and Simonetta Müller bought a piece of land on the Chaussee in 1842 and built a three-story house on it, which also included a stable and a coach house. In 1866, the property was inherited by the siblings Wilhelm and Marie Hinkel, who used the building as a spa pension. From 1869 the house belonged to the married couple Jacob and Susanna Kaulbach and was called "Villa Kaulbach". This “Villa Kaulbach” became a “Villa Stella” after the house, which was still used as a spa pension, was sold to Martin Christian in 1905. After the First World War , the building belonged to the factory owner Friedrich Christian, also known as "Pastillen-Christian".

Friedrich Christian had set up a pastille factory at Am Brunnenhof in the 1880s. There, lozenges were made from evaporated Bad Soden spring water, tragacanth and sugar. Friedrich Christian's son Kuno continued to run the factory until it was incorporated into Much AG in 1958. It existed until 1973. An Art Nouveau grave complex reminds of the Christian family.

Friedrich Christian had the filigree balconies removed and a massive semicircular porch attached to the front of the house. He also took care of modernization measures. Nonetheless, the house with its central dwelling , the high windows and the slatted shutters kept its style.
