The Købmagergade is a pedestrian street in the center of the Danish capital Copenhagen .

There are various sights of the city along the road, for example the Rundetårn (No. 52A) and in the annex to the historic post office building (No. 33). The former Post & Tele Museum (No. 37) was closed at the end of 2016 and reopened as Museum Enigma in Øster Allé 1 (in the Østerbro district ). In Købmagergade you will also find the Regensen student residence , the flagship store of the bookstore chain Arnold Busck A / S (Købmagergade no. 49) and their children's bookstore in the building diagonally opposite (no. 50). At the corner of Købmagergade and Silkegade is Købmagerhus, which was built in 1898.

From the 15th century to the 1530s, Schlachter lived on the street, which is why it was called Kjødmangergade ( butcher street ). The name Købmagergade can be found as early as 1660, but it has only been used regularly since the 19th century. In the 18th century, the royal porcelain factory was located in the street .

In 1780, the state post and telegraph system , the forerunner of Post Danmark and Tele Danmark , set up its headquarters at No. 33 until the administration moved to Centralpostbygning in 1912 . In 1988 the Blekingegade gang carried out a serious robbery on the building, which was then only used as a post office , in which a police officer was killed.

From 1845 to 2009 there was a Wienerbageri ( Viennese bakery ) at Købmagergade 67–69 . It was founded by Niels Christian Albeck after a study trip to Vienna, from which he also brought three bakers who baked typical Austrian cakes and breads. These were also delivered to the royal family. From this fashion, independent recipes later developed, collectively referred to as Wienerbrød .

The hat maker Petitgas has been located in No. 5 since 1857 .
