The Künstlerhof Oberndorf in Schweinfurt is the former home and studio of the artist Gustl G. Kirchner (1920–1984). It houses the Kirchner exhibition and the Kirchner archive. In addition, until 2017 there was Forum 13 , a platform for temporary exhibitions.
location
The Künstlerhof is located in Hauptstrasse 13 in the Schweinfurt district of Oberndorf .
history
Kirchner from Schweinfurt did not come to art directly. After his father's death in 1937, he took over his parents' farm. As a cavalryman , he was then drafted into World War II. After the decisive experience of the war, Kirchner developed into a diverse artist over the years. He finally gave up agriculture completely and studied at the Offenbach Werkkunstschule .
The Künstlerhof
The Künstlerhof is a former residential stable from the 18th century . Thanks to a foundation from the artist's widow, Bettina E. Kirchner-Schüllermann of the city of Schweinfurt, it was possible to acquire and renovate Kirchner's former home and studio in order to preserve the tradition of the studio house.
The Kirchner exhibition and the Kirchner archive are located on the ground floor (can only be viewed by telephone). Kirchner's home and studio now serve as the home and studio for the sculptor Norbert Kleinlein and his wife Heike, who works as a ceramist .
