The K.Bay.Sts.B. Sheet 308 is a Bavarian freight car . It is a two-axle open freight car based on sample sheet 308 for the Bavarian State Railways according to the car registration list from 1913. The car type was built in two versions, braked and unbraked.

history

The cars were procured in a series of 69 from Nöll & Co., Würzburg , for the Bayerische Ostbahn between 1859 and 1861 . It was the second acquisition of a type 'F' car . With the takeover of the Ostbahn by the Bavarian State Railroad in 1876, the cars were added to the fleet of the State Railroad and were given a new numbering scheme. While open brakeman's stands or free-seat brakes were still common on the state railroad cars at the time, the Ostbahn cars already had half-closed brakeman's cabins.

Constructive features

Underframe

In the delivery variant of the car, the underframe had a mixed design of iron longitudinal members and wooden cross members and head sills. Following the acquisition in the state railway the cars received as part of modernizing alterations in the central workshops in Regensburg and Nuremberg completely made up of sectional iron and riveted frame: . The outer side members were U-shaped with outward flanges. The cross members were also made of U-profiles and not cranked. The wagons had screw couplings with safety bars as a towing device. The delivery variant still had safety chains. The drawbar was spring-loaded throughout and in the middle. The wagons were equipped with rod buffers with an installation length of 612 mm. The buffer plates had a diameter of 370 mm.

With the braked cars, the car body was shortened on one side by 380 mm for the brakeman's platform. This protruded over the buffer at the height of the brakeman's cab.

drive

The wagons had half-timbered axle brackets of the short, straight design that were forged from flat iron. The axles were stored in split sliding axle bearings of Bavarian design. The wheels had type 24 spoked wheel bodies with a wheel diameter of 1,042 mm. The suspension in the delivery variant consisted of six 1,109 mm long spring bars with a cross-section of 96 x 13 mm. After 1876, the springs on all wagons were reinforced to increase the load weight and load capacity (1000/10500 kg → 12500/13125 kg). For this purpose, the length of the spring leaves has been increased to 1.1306 mm.

Car body

In the unbraked car, all side walls of the car body could be cordoned off. In some wagons, the side and end walls could only be removed with the help of tools. The frame of the car walls consisted of U and flat profiles. The walls of the car were 45 mm thick. The floor of the hold was 40 mm thick. The front ends of the wagons were drawn up in a triangular shape above the level of the side walls to the level of the gable beams. The placed gable beam offered the possibility of protecting cargo that was sensitive to moisture by means of car ceilings.

The loading openings on both sides had double-leaf, outward-opening doors made of wood with iron reinforcements and a clear loading width of 1,830 mm. The side walls of all cars were 1,100 mm high, the front walls had a height of 1,900 mm above the top edge of the floor.

The brakeman's cab on the braked cars stood on the right side of the brakeman's platform and protruded over the threshold. The brakeman's cab was open and accessible from the left, the hand-spindle brake was attached almost in the middle of the front wall. The roof of the brakeman's cab ended with the gable wall.
