from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

KG Corfield Ltd was a British camera manufacturer from Wolverhampton .

Kenneth Corfield (1924-2016), who founded KG Corfield Ltd., was the founder and head of the company . Established on Merridale Street in the late 1940s to manufacture Lumimeter , its darkroom light meter . The company soon got into the production of 35mm cameras and in 1953 the first Periflex was created . This had a 50mm f / 3.5 interchangeable lens that with the Leica - bayonet was provided. This meant that Leica lenses could also be used on this camera; however, the price was well below that of Leica cameras. Corfield sold lenses in the focal length range from 28mm to 400mm, which came from the Enna factory in Munich.

The Periflex I was followed by the Periflex II and in 1957 the Periflex 3 (also in versions 3a and 3b). The company has since moved from Wolverhampton to Northern Ireland. The best-selling Corfield camera , the Periflex Gold Star , which was equipped with a 50mm f / 1.9 lens, was also built there in 1960 . Increasing competition from Japanese photo companies pushed the Periflex out of the market in the 1960s. A few medium format cameras Corfield 66 were made, but in 1971 the KG Corfield Ltd was closed.

Kenneth Corfield continued to develop cameras later, together with Gandolfi , among others .
