KOI7

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

KOI7 ( Russian "Код Обмена Информацией, 7 бит" = "Code for information exchange, 7 bit") was a 7-bit character set based on ASCII to represent the Russian language , which uses the Cyrillic alphabet .

The KOI7 character set existed in two variants. One variant only covered the Latin and Cyrillic capital letters, as only 128 code positions are available in a 7-bit character set. The second variant worked with a mode switch with which the terminal could be switched between Latin and Cyrillic letters. The control character 0xE (SO, RUS) was used to switch to Russian mode and 0xF (SI, LAT) was used to switch back to Latin mode.

The letter Ё / ё was missing in KOI7, as was the large hardness symbol (Ъ).
