The Kaiser-Ludwig-Platz is located since 1886 in the Munich district Ludwigsvorstadt and is named after Emperor Louis IV (about 1284-1347) -. And Louis Baier .

Since 1905 a monument to Ludwig den Baier donated by Matthias Pschorr junior (1834–1900) has stood in the center of the square. The equestrian monument was designed and cast by Ferdinand Freiherr von Miller .

The Theresien-Gymnasium is located on its east side .
