Kakiemon porcelain
As Kakiemon ( Japanese. 柿 右衛門 様 式 , Kakiemon yōshiki , dt. "Kakiemon style") one designates certain Japanese porcelains and their European imitations, which are based on it. The name is derived from the Sakaida Kakiemon family business near the city of Arita , Hizen province , which had its own style. The Kakiemon style is characterized by: sketchy lines, watercolor-like application of paint and asymmetrical compositions that leave large areas unpainted. Kakiemon porcelain is a sub-genus of Arita porcelain .
The Kakiemon porcelain manufactory was founded by Sakaida Kakiemon at the beginning of the 17th century and is continued today in the fifteenth generation by Kakiemon Hiroshi.
