Warming room

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In monasteries, a warm room or calefactorium is a heated room in which the monks or nuns could stay in winter. Sometimes the term Kalefaktorium only refers to the space below the actual warming room in which the open fire for the heating was burning. The person responsible for the operation of the warming room was the calefactor (lat.) = Heater. This gave rise to the designation of a " killer" for a laborer for simple tasks.

Warming room also refers to an outpatient contact point for the homeless , usually a day meeting point.
