Calendar stories (Brecht)
Calendar Stories is a literary collection in verse and prose by the German playwright and poet Bertolt Brecht , all of the calendar story type . Brecht first mentioned the plan for the collection in April 1948. In January 1949 the calendar stories were published by Gebrüder Weiß Berlin. Brecht did not rewrite a story or a poem for this, he resorted to existing material. The stories of Mr. Keuner appear here for the first time, but were not written for the collection either. The collection was initially cautiously accepted by literary criticism. Because of the discussions about formalism and realism that began in the cultural-political scene in the GDR in 1949, Brecht was sometimes exposed to violent hostility. Further editions of the calendar stories did not appear until 1954 and 1955, which were quickly sold out . They are published regularly to this day.
The expenditure of the Reclam publishing house in Leipzig from 1979 to 1985 was audited by painter and designer Irmgard Horlbeck-Kappler with a cover picture that 1975 Brecht legend of the origin of the book Tao Te Ching ... had designed.
