Lime spreader in the field of liming with earth-moist lime

A lime spreader is a trailer used in agriculture or construction for the even distribution of dry, dusty and powdery grit such as quicklime and powdered fertilizer .

The structure is similar to that of a manure spreader or fertilizer spreader .

On the floor of the trailer there are transverse bars that are connected with circulating chains and transport the grit to the end of the trailer ( scraper floor ). Alternatively, a rotating rubber conveyor belt is used instead of a scraper floor. At the end of the spreader there is a metering slide which, together with the driving speed and working width, determines the amount applied. At the end of the trailer, burnt lime is distributed with the help of augers, and earth-moist and carbonate lime is usually distributed with diffusers. It is possible to equip lime spreaders with special equipment for site-specific spreading, which makes precision farming possible.

Scraper floor or rubber conveyor belt and distribution devices are driven by the tractor's PTO shaft .

Since agricultural lime spreaders are mostly only used seasonally, they are usually owned by lime sellers such as agricultural trading companies or contractors . In the construction industry, lime spreaders are used to distribute large quantities of lime to stabilize the subsoil.
