Kalusha (born June 1980 in Accra , Ghana ; actually Forster Yeboah ) is a Berlin rapper . His stage name means Black Man in his native language.

biography

At the age of seven, Kalusha, who grew up in Accra, developed a serious heart condition. He was brought to Berlin and operated on there; he and his mother then stayed in Wedding . Yeboah was often involved in fights. He was picked up by the police for the first time when he was twelve. Numerous criminal offenses followed, stays in assisted living facilities and suspended sentences. The police and the public prosecutor reported him as a juvenile intensive offender. At the age of 19, Yeboah recorded his first gangsta rap tapes in his private apartment , which he sent to the Ypsilon-Recordz label , which signed him.

In June 2001, he and a friend carried out an armed robbery on a Schlecker branch in Berlin . The police arrested the perpetrators in the branch. Yeboah was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, which he served in Tegel JVA, which he was allowed to leave for 48 hours a month. During his stays in freedom he produced the album Not Recommended for Imitation with Ypsilon manager Kühling under the stage name Kalusha , which was sold over 4,000 times by the end of 2004 and in which he deals with his past. Especially in the song Kein Buster , which tells his life story. Kalusha produced a music video for VIVA that was shot in a discarded GDR prison. The video is also part of the documentary Rap City Berlin The videos for The introduction and balls know no consideration were also played at Viva.

In promoting the album, Ypsilon-Recordz resorted to drastic means and used Forster Yeboah's criminal career as a marketing tool. For example, the label sent the album in a mail with cartridge cases to radio stations. In relation to Kalusha radio and television stations, the SPD politician Monika Griefahn called on radio and television stations to remove violent, pornographic and racist rap songs from their programs.

He went to Cologne for a feature with Eko Fresh , which meant that he lost his outdoor status. He had to go back to the correctional facility and serve his sentence, after which he was deported and initially returned to his homeland in Ghana. Between 2009 and 2010 Kalusha returned legally to Germany and was contacted by Said shortly after his arrival and persuaded by Said to join his label Hoodrich. Kalusha, however, left the label a short time later because he could not concentrate on the music due to his private worries that he had. He later began recording his second studio album, Prototype , which was finally released on October 8, 2016.
