Kampin keskus ( Kamppi Center ) is a complex in the Kamppi district of the Finnish capital Helsinki , which houses one of the largest shopping centers in Finland as well as one of the busiest bus stations in Europe.

In autumn 2002 one of the most ambitious construction projects in Helsinki's recent history began on the site. A 300 × 100 × 10 meter building pit was excavated for the new construction of the Kampinkeskus.

The structure houses, among other things, two underground bus stations:

  • Espoon terminaali for bus services between Helsinki and Espoo (1000 departures daily)
  • Helsingin linja-autoasema for long-distance transport (700 buses a day)

These bus terminals are used by a total of around 200,000 passengers every day. A dynamic passenger information system for passengers and bus drivers was installed for around 2 million euros to manage this flow of people .

The total of 55 bus platforms are located in an underground car park and are separated from the waiting rooms by glass walls. Only after the bus arrives does the bus driver release the door of his gate and receive the travelers.

On June 2, 2005, the first phase of construction (the bus terminals that went into operation a few days later, the new access to the metro and a fifth of the commercial space) was opened to the public by President Tarja Halonen . The shopping center, which is also part of the complex, and the exclusive apartments on the upper floors were opened in March 2006.
