Canadian silver commemorative dollar
The first Canadian silver commemorative dollar appeared in 1935 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of King George V's accession to the throne . Thus, the Canadian commemorative dollars are one of the oldest coin series in the world. The series was initially only continued very irregularly with changing motifs. A changing motif has been published every year since 1973, with so-called “Special edition proof silver dollars” being issued since 1999.
Different alloys, weights, minting qualities, coloring, gilding and edition numbers make the series a relatively complex and confusing subject area.
