With Kanonik (from Greek κανών ( canon ) - Scale; provision) of the philosopher is in the system Epicurus the basis of his philosophical designated teaching, that is his theory of knowledge in which he performs three "criteria of truth": perceptions , pre-concepts and sensations . According to the Epicurean view, the canon is a prerequisite for a successful occupation with philosophy , but not its real meaning - this lies rather in the field of ethics ; it consists in helping people to live as happily as possible ( eudaemonism ).
