Kapı Ağası

Kapı Ağası (" Agha of the Gate") was the title of the highest white palace eunuch in the Ottoman Empire until the appearance of the title "Darüssaade Ağası" or " Kızlar Ağası " in the late 16th century . The Kapı Ağası was usually chosen personally by the Sultan and in turn chose the palace servants or transferred them. The Kapı Ağası served as an intermediary between the Sultan and the outside world. He watched over the separation between the inner (Enderûn) and the outer (Birûn) palace, symbolized by the "Gate of Bliss" (Darüssaade) . The Kapı Ağası had the rank of minister . Another task of the Kapı Ağası was to lead the palace school in Enderun .
