Old Lord Chapel
The Alter Herrgott chapel in the Eger Forest south of Neualbenreuth in the Tirschenreuth district dates from the 17th century. It stands at a crossroads and is said to have been built in 1676 by Lieutenant-Captain Magnus Bartls after taking a vow . This can be read on a votive picture inside the chapel.
According to legend, Bartls got lost in the wilderness. When night fell, he made camp to move on the next day. When he fell asleep, he had a dream that his property and his family were ravaged by fire. In his need he called on the "old Lord" and vowed to build a chapel if he would lead him out of the forest. Thereupon a white deer appeared to him with a light in its antlers, which led him out of the forest.
