Kappa Andromedae b is a brown dwarf around the subgiant Kappa Andromedae , which was initially thought to be a Super-Jupiter . Kappa Andromedae has a very weak reddish glow. In addition, it gradually cools down. The brown dwarf orbits Kappa Andromedae at a distance of about 55 AU, which in our solar system would correspond to an orbit beyond Neptune and Pluto .

discovery

Kappa Andromedae b was photographed directly by the Subaru telescope . At first, Kappa Andromedae b was thought to be a gas giant with Jupiter's masses of 12.8; by reassessing the age of the star, the mass was corrected up to 37 to 66 Jupiter's masses. This means that Kappa Andromedae b is no longer a planet, but a brown dwarf.
