The Kappabashi Street (in Japanese Kappabashi ( か っ ぱ 橋 or 合 羽 橋 ) German “Kappabashi-Geräteladenstraße” ( か っ ぱ 橋 道具 街 , Kappabashi dōgugai )) in Matsugaya and Nishi- Asakusa , Taitō , Tokyo is a special shopping street for restaurants and kitchen supplies with over 200 stores. A typical Asian peculiarity is the sale of plastic replicas of dishes and drinks, which are mainly used in small restaurants to advertise in shop windows.

The approximately 1 km long road with two lanes in each direction extends from the junction Asakusa-dōri / Kikuya-bashi ( 35 ° 42 ′ 37.1 ″  N , 139 ° 47 ′ 17.7 ″  E ) as the southern end to the cross one Kototoi-dōri as the north end ( 35 ° 43 ′ 5.3 ″  N , 139 ° 47 ′ 21.6 ″  E ).

Surname

Hashi, or here bashi, means bridge. Kappa ( (雨) 合 羽 , (ama) kappa ), literally about feather cape, is derived from the Portuguese rainwear capa . The word with the same name, but written 河 童 , gives cause for confusion and denotes the Japanese river goblin , which is not the namesake of the street, even if its statue is there.
