The Kaputaş-beach or Turkish Kaputaş Plajı is a small natural beach in a bay between the towns of Kas and Kalkan in southwestern Turkey on the Mediterranean .

Surname

The name comes from the Kaputaş river, which flows into the Mediterranean in the bay . Shortly before its mouth, it formed a 200 meter long gorge right on the beach in the foothills of the Taurus Mountains . The bay and the gorge are named after the river.

location

The beach is located about 20 kilometers west of Kaş and about 7 kilometers south of Kalkan at a point where the extremely narrow gorge of the Kaputaş Canyon is crossed by a bridge from the D400 expressway . The beach is very popular with visitors to the region, as it is located directly on the road and is connected by a staircase from above. On both sides of the bay, the rock walls fall almost vertically into the sea. The bay is also a popular destination for excursion boats from Kaş or Kalkan.

deals

Kaputaş Beach is a natural beach with no fixed facilities such as toilets or showers. In the season loungers and parasols are rented out. Some vendors sell souvenirs and refreshments. The beach is monitored by the municipality of Kalkan, but there is only a limited number of parking spaces on the road. The bus between Kaş and Kalkan has a stop here. The sea gets very deep very quickly near the beach. The beach is ranked among the 20 best beaches in Turkey and among the most beautiful on the Lycian coast.

Surroundings

A narrow path leads from the beach into the deep, narrow Kaputaş Gorge. It starts below the road bridge on the other side of the road. The canyon was formed from the abrasion of the Kaputaş water flowing through the rocks over thousands of years. The gorge ends after about 200 meters and offers a spectacular view of the steep straight walls. The path is a bit difficult because it is not developed, and in contrast to the gorge at Saklıkent , entry is free.
