Carditis is a collective term for inflammatory diseases of the heart (cardia). Not to be confused with carditis , which is a collective term for the inflammatory diseases of the cardia .

This includes the following diseases:

• Pericarditis (inflammation of the pericardium )
• Myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle)
• Endocarditis (inflammation of the lining of the heart)
• Pankarditis (endo-myo-pericarditis): Carditis involving the three layers of the heart wall, pericardium , myocardium and endocardium .
