Caries recurrence

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Caries recurrence is a term used in dentistry .

It describes a renewed flare-up of a caries that has not been completely removed in an area that has already been treated. Recurrence of tooth decay is usually the result of a dental malpractice. However, it may not have been possible to completely remove the caries even during the initial treatment - e.g. B. child unwilling to treat , very deep caries ( caries profunda ) with an impending risk of pulp opening, inaccessible place on the tooth (e.g. if the mouth is not open enough).

Caries recurrence must be differentiated from secondary caries , in which caries occurs in problem areas that have been newly created in the event of poorly crafted treatment, for example on a protruding, unpolished or damaged filling or crown margin.
