The Center Fries is the student center of the University of Friborg (Switzerland).

history

The property in the Freiburg district of Pérolles, high above the old town, was built in 1909 by a Marquis de Maillardoz de Rue. The building shows itself as a villa of historicism with stylistic features of the neo-renaissance . The builder's daughters bequeathed the Villa Maillardoz to a small Catholic sister order who lived in it for a short time. When the order was able to move into a larger, also inherited city palace, he bequeathed the villa to the bishop. He made the villa available to the pastoral care of the University of Freiburg.

The Center Fries was founded on November 1st, 1969, on the initiative of students and the Catholic university pastoral care. The Center Fries has been run and lived in by a group of students since the beginning.

The Center Fries team organizes political evenings, concerts, film screenings, meals, readings, poetry slams and other cultural events during the semester.
