Kashikishi , also Kasnikishi or Kasikisi , is a place a few kilometers north of Nchelenge in Zambia in the province of Luapula , on the southeastern shore of Lake Mweru . It is 920 meters above sea level.

Social

Kashikishi is best known for his hospital, St. Paul's Mission Hospital, which is run by nuns from the diocese of Mansa and has been consistently supported by a support association in Basel, Switzerland, with expert advice from the cantonal hospital since 1973 . St. Paul's not only offers 140 beds, but also nurses training. In return, it receives support in power supply, infrastructure, drug shortages, personnel problems and medical teaching from Basel. It is the most important hospital in the Nchelenge district and is responsible for the care of the entire population of 150,000 people, if not also for the people on the other side of the lake in the Democratic Republic of the Congo .

economy

Besides Nchelenge, Kashikishi is the most important fish market on Lake Mweru, which has to do with the asphalt road from here to the Copperbelt , which is around 500 kilometers away . Taxes on fish in both cities finance 80% of the district budget (four million kwacha in 2000). The place has elementary and secondary schools, an unpaved, 1,000 meter long airstrip, banks and some shops.
