North-east of the coastal town of Potos on the northern Greek island of Thasos , the Acropolis of Kastri, discovered on a towering rock plateau, was examined and described by the Ephoria Kavala between 1969 and 1978 and 1992 with the participation of international experts. These are the remains of a prehistoric settlement with its necropolises Kentria , Tsiganadika and Vrysoudes , the Larnaki burial ground to the north and the tombs of Mantaloudi near Theologos .

The initial settlement may go back to the Middle to Late Neolithic . The two proven main periods of settlement fall in the Late Bronze Age and the Late Iron Age (13th and 7th centuries BC). In each of the two main periods, the population migrated into the interior of the island. In the 11th and 10th centuries BC In Kastri, oval and apsidal houses were built in post construction and rectangular houses with stone foundations. It was an unusual one

Construction based on Aegean models. The social and economic structures were examined.

The island culture was determined by the culture of the northern mainland. Lively trade relations with central and eastern Macedonia and the Aegean Thrace developed through the river valleys of Strymon , Nestos and Evros . Particularly in the early phase of settlement, a dominant Mycenaean influence can be seen due to the excavated pottery. Typically incised locally made ceramics predominate, some with spiral ornaments, and imitations of late Helladic goods by local potters. In the late Iron Age phase, the relationship with Mycenae almost completely disappears before the settlement of Kastri is finally abandoned.
