Marc Aimé Fossard (born August 15, 1912 in Rivery, Somme department , † July 2, 2007 in Vierzon ) was a French cameraman .
Life
Fossard began his professional career in 1929 as a prop master at the production company Pathé . In 1931 he advanced to production manager. From 1932 Fossard worked as a camera assistant, since 1934 he was assigned to experienced colleagues such as Jules Kruger and Roger Hubert as a simple cameraman or second chief cameraman .
During this heyday of French film, Fossard photographed several masterpieces by Julien Duvivier and Marcel Carné , including Hafen im Nebel , Pépé le Moko - In the Dark of Algiers and, above all, Children of Olympus . Several times, especially at the beginning of his career (1934–38), Jean Gabin acted in front of his camera.
After the Second World War, Marc Fossard worked independently and on his own responsibility. His films during this time - pure entertainment without artistic aspirations - are, however, irrelevant. Fossard was also a regular cameraman for almost all of the early works (1948-55) of Jean-Paul Le Chanois . In 1963/64 he also photographed two early Louis de Funès comedy hits. He also worked for television in the 1960s and 1970s. 1980 Fossard withdrew into private life.
