Jean-Paul Le Chanois
Jean-Paul Le Chanois (born October 25, 1909 as Jean-Paul Etienne Dreyfus in Paris , † July 8, 1985 in Passy, Haute Savoie ) was a French screenwriter and film director .
Life
Le Chanois studied law , philosophy and psychiatry for a few semesters and was also involved in an avant-garde theater group. In 1930 he came to film and became an assistant to directors Anatole Litvak , Alexander Korda , Maurice Tourneur and Max Ophüls, among others . Shortly before the start of the Second World War , Le Chanois directed documentaries and newsreels . In 1939 he was able to make a feature film as a director for the first time, during the time of the German occupation the native Jew Dreyfus went underground and was active in the Resistance . During this time Dreyfus, code name Le Chanois, also worked for the production company of the German occupying power Continental-Film ( Die Teufelshand ). The German Continental boss and former favorite of Goering and Goebbels , Alfred Greven , who knew about Le Chanois' Jewish identity, still held his protective hand over him. His cinematic work is strongly influenced by humanism.
