Kate Sheppard House

The Kate Sheppard House is a historic building that the district in the Clyde Road 83 Ilam the New Zealand city of Christchurch is located. It was the home of the New Zealand social reformer and suffragette Kate Sheppard (1847-1934) for 14 years .

On December 10, 2010, it was classified as a Category 1 Monument (Historic Place Category I) by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust under number 9325 .

The house was built from 1887 to 1888. Kate Sheppard and her husband moved from the city center to the then rural building in 1888 and lived there until 1902. Sheppard's activities took place during this period, leading to the introduction of women's suffrage in New Zealand in 1893 as the first country in the world .

The wooden house has a slate roof and eight rooms.

The house was expanded and changed by several successive owners, but the basic substance is still recognizable.
