Kathleen Gonçalves (2019)

Kathleen Gonçalves (Chinese name: Fon Ha Tchong ) is an East Timorese businesswoman of Chinese descent .

Career

After the end of the Indonesian occupation, Gonçalves returned to East Timor from Australia , where she belongs to the third generation of her family in East Timor. In 2009 Gonçalves was criticized because three companies in which she was involved had received large government contracts, while her husband João Mendes Gonçalves was Minister of Economic Affairs (2007–2012). It was pointed out that Gonçalves had been importing rice to East Timor since 1999 and was also commissioned by the previous government. The ACAIT Bistro, run by Gonçalves in the former building of the Associação Comercial, Agrícola e Industrial de Timor , was evicted in 2018 after disagreements with the government over the 2018 lease.

Gonçalves is currently Vice-President of the Câmera de Comércio e Indústria de Timor-Leste CCI-TL, President of the Asosiasaun das Mulheres das Emprezarias de Timor-Leste AEMTL (Association of Women Entrepreneurs in East Timor) and, since 2019, President of the Associação Comercial da Comunidade Chinesa Timorense .
