history

The Apostolic in the Netherlands, an overview

The Katholiek Apostolische Kerk emerged in 1971 from the Hersteld Apostolische Zendingskerk (HAZK). She belongs to the apostolic communities and sees herself as the legitimate successor of the Catholic apostolic communities .

Causes of emergence

In March 1968 three new apostles were called in the HAZK, the number of apostles increased from four to seven. Among the three newcomers was Jacob van der Poorten, who had recently been called to England (the so-called Ruben tribe ). This represented a novelty in the history of the HAZK, because so far the sphere of activity of this community was limited to the Netherlands, Australia, Germany, Austria and South Africa.

Jacob van der Poorten (October 18, 1928 - October 14, 2007) came from the Amsterdam community and received the gift of prophecy a few months later. Furthermore, like several apostles of the HAZK (AJ Korff and LJ Korff), he was interested in the church history of the Catholic-Apostolic congregations. As early as the late 1950s and early 1960s he had been to England a number of times and had obtained a lot of Catholic apostolic literature there, but at that time he did not agree with parts of the British liturgy.

According to some prophets, apostle van der Poorten soon broke through the (unbiblical) principle of "law and light" , according to which the apostle is the "right" and the prophet the "light" - according to which the prophet is after his call to be an apostle Although he was allowed to give knowledge and prophecies , the apostles only had to decide on the legality based on the holy scriptures. In their opinion, no apostle was allowed to prophesy. However, Van der Poorten has agreed with Ossebaar that he should withdraw if Ossebaar should also reject the apostolic prophecies.

In prophecy, offices such as 'angels', 'angel evangelists', 'shepherd with the apostle' were called - offices that the mother church of the Catholic-Apostolic congregations knew, but had partially disappeared from the Hersteld Apostolische Zendingkerk. Furthermore, Van der Poorten prophetically called for penance in the HAZK, which included that the HAZK had to return to the original apostolic orders. Parts of the HAZK demanded that these acts of van der Poorten be disciplined by the apostle Ossebaar, but the latter remained inactive because he and almost the entire apostolate accepted the apostolic prophecy. As a result, part of the community separated at the end of 1969 (without apostles!) And founded the Hersteld Apostolische Zendingkerk II .

In 1970, Apostle van der Poorten called on the officials of the HAZK orally and in writing to return their offices to the Lord and "to go with him in spirit to the altar of the English apostles and to ask forgiveness for the sins of Schwarz and Geyer (the split of 1863) " . A significant number of the ministers agreed to do so, but they stayed in their place to take care of the congregation members.

founding

Van der Poorten resigned from office on Good Friday 1971. He also "reunited in spirit with the British apostles" , repeatedly saying that he rejected the schism of 1863 as a great sin. At Easter 1971 Van der Poorten was confirmed again in his office by a prophetic speech by one of the prophets. Ossebaar then excluded Van der Poorten, the angel of Amsterdam, and among others five other apostles from the HAZK. They were also denied church access and their salaries were cut. The majority of the members of the Amsterdam municipality followed them. Gradually, other excluded officials were then reassigned to their offices. When at the end of 1971 Ossebaar also abolished Holy Communion on the orders of the Arheim prophets, the angel of the Enkhuizen community visited Ossebaar, informed him that he could not obey this unbiblical decision and asked three times for the obedience band to be lifted. Ossebaar said that he should do what he thought was right. So all the servants of this community resigned from their offices and in spring 1972 they looked for a connection to the 'old altar'.

In the course of the next few years, the Catholic-Apostolic liturgy was gradually reintroduced, liturgical vestments were used again, and many liturgical customs and the ecclesiastical teachings of the Catholic-Apostolic communities were taken up again. consequently one calls oneself again "catholic-apostolisch" (catholic-apostolic). According to your own self-image you are the true continuation of the Catholic-Apostolic community.

Todays situation

While in the 1970s the group was clearly the group with the largest number of members of the three communities that emerged from the original HAZK, internal disputes developed from the late 1980s onwards, which led to the group splintering. There are u. a. Parishes in Amsterdam and Enkhuizen .
