Katowice Fair

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Katowice Fair (Polish: Międzynarodowe Targi Katowickie (MTK) ) is the second largest fair in Poland . It is located in the large city of Chorzów (Königshütte), directly on the city limits to Katowice (Kattowitz).

The Katowice Exhibition Center consists of a large exhibition area and numerous exhibition halls in which dozens of trade fair events take place every year. Company headquarters are also located here. The fair is not in the urban area of Katowice, but already belongs to the neighboring town of Chorzów. The exhibition center was built a few hundred meters west of the city limits of Katowice, but has an address for the city of Katowice: ul. Bytkowska 2b. In the Upper Silesian industrial area , the cities merge almost seamlessly, so Wełnowiec (formerly Hohenlohehütte ), a district of Katowice , begins on the other side of the street .

In fact, the fair is only 3.5 kilometers northwest of downtown Katowice, in the so-called Culture and Recreation Park of the Silesian Voivodeship (Wojewódzki Park Kultury i Wypoczynku), which is the largest park in Poland. The fair benefits from the large free area on the park area and, above all, from the large sales market in the urban area around Katowice with around 3.5 million inhabitants.

On January 28, 2006 , the roof of the largest hall on the exhibition grounds collapsed and, according to official figures, claimed 65 lives and around 170 injured.
