Cat (fortress construction)
In fortress construction, the cat is the Germanized name for the "Kat". There were the following forms of cats:
- The bastion or curtain cat, also known as the cavalier , is a gun emplacement. In Dutch these works are called "Kat".
- The trench cat is an elevated infantry formation in a trench system . It allows, for example Flankierungsfeuer on a covered way (the excavation came as Wall on the sides; covered in this case means that the trooper could come unseen to the front to front). These covered trenches were about two meters deep and about ten meters wide.
