Cat stairs (house cat)

A cat staircase (also known as a cat ladder or cat staircase ) is a device to enable house cats to freely climb and descend to an apartment that would otherwise be difficult or impossible for the cat to reach via the house facade, especially if the apartment is not on the ground floor lies. A cat flap is often installed on the apartment side to enable the animal to leave and enter the apartment independently.

Forms of cat stairs

Cat stairs essentially come in two forms:

  • Either a relatively narrow board, usually approx. 15 to 20 cm wide, on which transverse strips are applied at regular intervals to prevent the animal from slipping (see first picture), so that the animal actually climbs up or down a slope must or
  • in the form of vertical spiral staircases or steps running in zigzag, whereby the step shape , the step spacing and the step area are subject to just as much leeway as the materials used.
