The Kawagasa is a helmet worn by Japanese soldiers and servants of the samurai .

description

The Kawagasa is made of a special leather ( Japanese Neri-Gawa). After tanning and processing , the leather was coated on both sides with varnish , which makes the leather very stable and durable. The paint was used to decorate and protect the leather from moisture. The Kawagasa have a semicircular dome, as well as an eye shield, which should protect against glare, and a short neck shield. A decorated button (Japanese: Tehen-No-Kanamono) is usually attached to the top, which is used to decorate and attach a helmet ornament. There are many versions of the helmet.
