Kazue Shinkawa

Kazue Shinkawa ( Japanese 新 川 和 江 ; Shinkawa Kazue ; born April 22, 1929 Yūki in Ibaraki Prefecture ) is a Japanese poet. Her son is the composer and arranger Hiroshi Shinkawa (born July 26, 1955).

Shinkawa began writing poetry at the age of fourteen. During the Second World War she supported the poet and literary scholar Yaso Saijō in his work on a book about Arthur Rimbaud . Through him she got to know the works of Paul Verlaines , Paul Valéry and Jules Supervielles . In 1953 she made her debut with the volume of poetry Nemuri isu , which was followed by more than thirty other volumes over the years, including numerous selected volumes and two complete editions. In 1965 she was awarded the Murō Saisei Poetry Prize for Rōma no aki sono ta . She also published several collections of poetry for children. In 1983 she founded the magazine La Mer with Sachiko Yoshihara to promote young female poets , which was published until 1993.
