Keluak , also known as Keluwek , Keluwak , Kluwak or Kluak , is the seed of the Pangi or Kepayang tree ( Pangium edule ), which is native to Southeast Asia . The fruit is about the size of a peeled coconut in which many large seeds (nuts) are irregularly layered.

In Central and East Java , the pangi seeds are mainly used as an ingredient for “rawon”, a beef soup, while in Sulawesi mainly for “pamarassan”, a pork dish. While the Jawans only use the seeds contained in the "nuts", the Toraja on Sulawesi also use the dried layer that is located under the outer shell.

In the literature it is reported that the seeds contain hydrocyanic acid and that these must first be buried and fermented to make them edible.
