Kentō

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kentō ( Japanese 見 当 ) is a passport system used in woodblock prints . It ensures that in the case of color woodcut , in which several printing blocks are used, all printing blocks can be placed precisely.

Kentō was originally developed in Japanese color woodblock prints, but is now also used by many Western printmakers. On all printing blocks, a fitting angle is attached in one corner and a fitting rope is attached to one long side. In the modified Kentō system, there is a registration mark on a base plate outside the printing blocks .
