Core rot is a disease in apples, the fruits appear completely healthy from the outside, in late stages rot areas are visible on the calyx or stem pit.
Initially, the fungal infection is limited to the nucleus and pervades this with a white down, the mycelium. Only later does it spread to the pulp. The cause are several types of fungus, one of the main causes is the fungus Fusarium avenaceum . Infection can occur at almost any point in time, beginning with flowering. The occurrence also depends on the weather; the infection rate is higher in rainy years.
