The candle makers or candle makers was until the late 19th century, one of the traditional crafts , like the now today also rare sectors such as Sattler or clothier. The name candle puller comes from the way the candles are made : the wick (or several wicks at the same time) is repeatedly dipped into the liquid wax and pulled out again until the candle has the desired thickness.

This drawing process can be easily automated industrially, so that the profession lost its importance around 1850. In manual work only candles today are made for specific purposes.
