Candle strength

The candle strength is a photometric unit used until around 1950 for the radiation of a light source (see also Hefner candle ). It generates an illuminance of approximately 1  lux at a distance of one meter .

The candle strength was replaced in the 1940s by the new candle and finally by the SI unit candela .
