Chain tripod

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The chain stand or string stand (engl. Chain tripod or string tripod ) is an improvised tripod . It is not a tripod in the strict sense of the word. Tripods are used to set up or support devices with the aim of positioning and holding the device in the room at a certain point.

A chain tripod is a chain (sometimes a cord or wire rope ) attached to the device, which extends from the underside of the device to the floor and lies a short length on the floor. After positioning the device at working height, step on the chain with one foot and pull the device upwards. This results in stabilization in the vertical. The chain tripod is comparable to a monopod and is primarily used in photography.

Chain tripods can be stowed in an extremely space-saving manner, but represent the real minimum in terms of stabilizing devices and cameras and are therefore only useful in a few situations or as a makeshift aid.
