Key Thomas Märkl

Key-Thomas Märkl (born May 19, 1963 ) is a German-Japanese violinist .

Märkl was born into a musical family, the mother a Japanese pianist, the father a German violinist ( Josef Märkl ). His brother is the conductor Jun Märkl . At the age of five he began his violin studies, first with his father, then with Rami Shevelow at the Juilliard School in New York, and received his Master of Music with Shmuel Ashkenasi , Primarius of the Vermeer Quartet, at Northern Illinois University .

Märkl has been a member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra since 1990 . He is a soloist and also works as a chamber musician in Germany and Europe. Several string quartet tours led to Iceland, the USA and Europe. He recorded numerous chamber music works for Bayerischer Rundfunk and the Col legno label. In 1980/81 and 1990/91 he was a member (2nd violin) of his father's Märkl Quartet .

Märkl has been Ingolf Turban's assistant at the Munich University of Music and Drama since 2010 and gives master classes in Japan.
