Khan (band)

Khan was a British progressive rock band from the Canterbury scene that existed from 1971 to 1972.

It was founded in 1971 by Steve Hillage (guitar), who had previously played with Uriel Nicholas (Nick) Greenwood (bass), who had previously played with The Crazy World of Arthur Brown , Dick Henningham (organ / keyboards) and Pip Pyle (drums ). The band chose Terry King as their manager, who also managed Caravan . The following concerts a. a. with Caravan, Steamhammer and Gnidrolog led to a contract with Decca / Deram Records.Pyle switched to Gong before the first gig in June 1971 and was replaced by Eric Peachey. In October 1971 Dick Heninghem resigned and was replaced by Dave Stewart for the phase of the album sessions .

The only album "Space Shanty" was recorded in 1971/72 with the last line-up Steve Hillage (guitar), Nick Greenwood (bass), David Stewart (keyboards) and Eric Peachey (drums) and released in 1972.
