history

Plaque on the trunk

The tree comes from the middle or second half of the 18th century. Since then, it has survived two rotations , whereby the rotation period for pine forests is usually 80–140 years.

From 1958 to 1975 Karl Jahn (1910–1996) was head of the chief forestry department of Dresdner Heide und Heller. The fact that the Dresdner Heide was designated as a landscape protection area in 1969 is largely due to his instigation . In the 1970s, volunteer conservationists suggested placing the stately pine under protection and naming it as Jahn-Kiefer (or Karl-Jahn-Kiefer ) in honor of the chief forester . The name did not catch on, but in 1985 the Dresden City Council placed several individual trees in the city under protection, including this pine in 32nd position on the list of biological natural monuments .

The protection area around the tree extends under the entire crown and at least 18 meters from the trunk.
