The child and youth dental service (KJZÄD) as a subject area of ​​the child and youth medical service in the health department has its goals and tasks in improving the dental health of the next generation. The main concern is the promotion of health by means of targeted prophylaxis programs based on current scientific knowledge and recommendations of the World Health Organization . In Germany, every child up to the age of 16 is legally entitled to dental health promotion measures ( Section 21 SGB ​​V ).

Work content

  • Carrying out the statutory health check-ups in day-care centers and schools
  • Realization of group prophylaxis in day-care centers and schools according to the applicable guidelines. Group prophylaxis is an educational offer. Using worksheets, models and games, questions such as oral hygiene , tooth decay , toothbrushing technique, etc. Ä. addressed and conveyed in a child-friendly manner.
  • Regular consultation hours for advice and prevention against dental diseases (suckling weaning, teeth brushing exercises, nutritional guidance, tooth enamel hardening by fluoride , fissure sealing)
  • Motivation to visit the dentist regularly and to introduce the children to dental treatment (fear reduction)
  • Expertise in administrative assistance for the social welfare office

The annual Dental Health Days (25 September), parents' evenings, day-care center and school celebrations are used by KJZÄD staff for information and practical instruction on the subject of dental health.

In the regional youth dental care working groups, there is coordination and cooperation with the dentists in the outpatient and inpatient areas to promote the dental health of adolescents .
